Frequently asked questions.

What is EMDR?

Think of EMDR like a mental "file reorganization" session. Imagine your distressing memories as files stored in a messy cabinet. The therapist, acting like a tech support person, helps you revisit these files while using eye movements (or other forms of bilateral stimulation) to sort and tidy them up. It's like defragmenting your mental hard drive, making those memories less disruptive and easier for your brain to handle.

How long does therapy last?

A typical therapy session is 50 minutes. Overall treatment can vary. For clients with a highly focused area of concern, therapy tends to reach completion within a few sessions. For clients with a wider range of concerns or complex history, therapy can take a bit longer. It is recommended to plan for at least 10-15 sessions to address your concerns.

What is a superbill?

A superbill is like a receipt from your therapist, but with extra details. It lists everything that happened during your appointment, such as the date you visited, what treatment your therapist provided, and your diagnosis.

Think of it as a cheat sheet for your insurance company. When you send them the superbill, it helps them understand why they should pay for your care. Plus, it's handy for you to keep track of your past appointments.

A superbill can allow you to use insurance benefits from Out Of Network (OON) providers. Even if the therapist is not paneled with your insurance provider, a superbill can be submitted to the insurance company for potential reimbursement and go toward your deductible.

I want to initiate therapy, but how do I do it?

I get it. It’s not always clear what you’re supposed to say or how to say it. You have options!

Option 1) Click on the Contact tab at the top of this page or in the navigation bar. You’ll be directed to my contact form. Fill out your contact information with a message saying something like, “Hi! My name is _____, and I’m interested in starting therapy.” It can be a simple as that! If you like, you can provide me with some additional context about why you’re ready to start therapy and what you’re hoping to get out of it.

Option 2) Email me directly! My email address is emma@sunflowertherapyllc.net. You can make the subject line anything you want! If you’re unsure, “Therapy” works just fine. Follow the same messaging steps as Option 1, and I’ll get back to you!

For options 1&2, you can expect that I’ll reach back out to you over email (if you prefer a phone call, let me know in your message!) within 2 business days. I’ll offer you a free 15-minute consultation call, or if you’re ready to jump in, we can schedule your first session!

Option 3) Maybe a phone call is more your style. You can reach me at 803-630-8031. You’ll probably get my voicemail, in which case, leave a message with your name, a callback number, and letting me know you’re interested in starting therapy. I’ll give you a call back within 2 business days. I’ll offer you a free 15-minute consultation call, or we can schedule your first session!
